The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has purchased the Command & Control and Battle Management System SitaWare, which provides a complete picture of the battlefield and allows information to be shared quickly. Learn why New Zealand decided to invest in SitaWare from Systematic.

Digitising the New Zealand Army

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has acquired the Command & Control and Battle Management System SitaWare from Systematic. Until now, the New Zealand Army relies mostly on manual processes to receive and disseminate information, but with the purchase of SitaWare the army will soon have access to cutting-edge communication systems.

“The purchase is a part of a programme to digitise the Army to provide modern command, communication, battle management, and surveillance capabilities,” the Defence Minister, Gerry Brownlee, says in a press release from the New Zealand Government. 

Why have a network enabled army?

“The new system will enable NZDF to gain a complete picture of the situation on the ground and share information quickly,” Gerry Brownlee says.

Furthermore, SitaWare eases the process of collaborating with partners. “It will also enable the Defence Force to operate seamlessly with partners when deployed in a coalition,” Gerry Brownlee continues.

“The SitaWare system will link headquarters, units, vehicles and individuals, allowing Army to get a full picture of the battlefield and share information quickly."

Support for the soldiers

Despite an extensive technological transformation, the acquisition of SitaWare does not change what the Army does. “This system won’t change what the Army does, but it will provide advanced tools and techniques to support our soldiers, such as ‘blue force tracking’ and a common operating picture of troop movements," Gerry Brownlee explains.

The New Zealand Army has used the SitaWare system for several years for training, experimentation, and field exercises supported by Systematic’s local business partner, Eagle Technology Group Ltd. 

The role of Systematic

SitaWare is developed by Systematic, but the responsibility goes far beyond that. “We will also assist the NZDF team in providing architecture and system design services, along with implementation and integration support,” Mike Magill, President Systematic Asia-Pacific explains.

“A key feature of the support services is that they will take account of evolving and maturing requirements through the set-up of an ‘Agile’ project environment managed by Systematic,” Mike Magill continues.

Russia Providing PH with AK-103s

The Russian government is expected to turn over 5000 units of Avtomat Kalashnikova AK-103 with a million ammunition on October 25.

Official announcement or confirmation is yet to be made but reliable sources say that Russia will be providing the AK-103 model of Kalashnikov rifle.

AK-103 uses the 7.62×39mm round. It can be fitted with night vision or telescopic sights, and a knife-bayonet or grenade launcher.

It was previously expected that Russia will provide the AK-101 which uses the 5.56×45mm NATO round.

Assault rifles in Philippine military service uses 5.56×45mm NATO round. Department of National Defense – Government Arsenal is also producing the NATO round.

President Rodrigo Duterte announced last week that Russia will be donating 5000 Kalashnikov rifles without providing specific model.

These Russian rifle and ammunition together with 20 military truck will be formally turned over on October 25.

Damaged Romeo Helicopter could be a Write-Off

A multi-million dollar naval helicopter has been extensively damaged on its way to the Middle East.

It is understood the MH-60 Romeo Seahawk from 725 Squadron at HMAS Albatross was damaged onboard HMAS Warramunga on it’s way to Perth before heading to the Gulf.

It is believed the helicopter may have broken free of its lashing in an hangar area, half way across the Great Australian Bight in rough conditions.

It is understood the helicopter “bounced” around the hangar area, causing significant damage, with one of three sources who spoke to the Register saying the helicopter might be “a write-off”.

Other reports suggest the aircraft has suffered millions of dollars worth of damage.

It is understood no one was injured in the incident.

The Register has been told the aircraft was replaced to allow Warramunga, an Anzac Class Frigate Helicopter (FFH), capable of air defence, surface and undersea warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction, to continue to the Middle East.

Defence was contacted for comment over the alleged incident but is yet to respond.

The Australian Government approved the acquisition of 24 MH-60R Seahawk Romeo naval combat helicopters at a cost of over $3 billion.

​The Romeo, replacing the S-70B-2 Seahawk helicopters, is seen as the future of naval aviation. It is equipped with a highly sophisticated combat systems designed to employ Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and the Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedo.

The Romeo’s primary mission is anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare but also has the ability to undertake search and rescue, logistics support, personnel transport and medical evacuation.

The helicopters are largely military off-the-shelf built by Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin and were acquired through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process from the US Navy.

The final of the 24 helicopters arrived at Nowra’s HMAS Albatross in September 2016, providing navy the capacity to equip at least eight warships with a combat helicopter at the same time.

The remainder are based at Albatross with 725 Squadron which was recommissioned in 2015.

As well as Anzac Class frigates, the Romeos can also be deployed on the new Air Warfare Destroyers.

KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. PT Pindad (Persero) tengah menjajaki kerjasama dan penjualan baru produk militer. Belum lama ini perusahaan pelat merah tersebut telah merampungkan transaksi alutsista di sejumlah negara ASEAN.

Direktur Utama Pindad Abraham Moses mengatakan, pihaknya tengah menjajaki kembali penjualan ke militer Laos, saat perdana menteri negara tersebut mengunjungi Indonesia. “Selain dengan Laos, juga ada Arab Saudi, rencananya produk yang ditawarkan bom dan misil,” ungkapnya di sela acara Indonesia International Cyber Security Leaders, Selasa (17/10).

Lanjut Abraham, selain itu, perusahaan juga menjajaki kerjasama dengan pemerintah Qatar untuk pendirian fasilitas Maintenance, Repair & Operation (MRO). “Kami masih tunggu lampu hijau dari pemerintah (Indonesia), setelahnya segera follow up,” ujar Abraham.

Kerjasama direncanakan dalam bentuk joint marketing & operation, di mana Pindad akan mengirimkan sumber daya teknisinya. “Kebetulan panser dan tank mereka sejenis dengan punya kita (Indonesia),” terang Abraham. Fasilitas MRO tersebut juga dapat menjadi bisnis after sales Pindad.

Pindad tengah getol mengoptimalkan anak usahanya yang bergerak di bidang perdagangan dan ekspor. Baru-baru ini perseroan telah mendirikan PT Pindad Global Source of Trading yang menjual dan mengageni produk-produk Pindad. “Kami juga punya PT Pindad Logistic Prepare untuk jasa pengangkutan, dan kami punya area penyimpanan yakni Pindad Logistic,” urai Abraham.

Bisnis jasa pengangkutan tersebut tidak hanya dikhususkan bagi grup Pindad, namun bisa digunakan pelanggan di luar perseroan. “Lahan di Bandung 60 hektare bisa dioptimalkan. Di sana kami punya tempat penyimpanan, semacam kawasan industrial berikat,” sebut Abraham. Area penyimpanan tersebut tak ubahnya sebuah dry port yang punya akses distribusi lebih efisien.

Japan to Pay Vietnam More Patrol Boats than Philippines?

Russia Contunues Negotiating with Indonesia for the Supply of Amphibious APCs

Russia is negotiating with Indonesia for the delivery of amphibious armored personnel carriers (BTR) BT-3F, Deputy Director General of Rosoboronexport (RoE), who heads the ROE delegation at this arms salon, Sergei Goreslavsky, told reporters on Tuesday at the BIDEC-2017 exhibition.

HMAS Hobart sets sail

HMAS Hobart has “slipped her lines” and set sail for the first time since commissioning on 23 September 2017.

Her departure from Fleet Base East, Garden Island, Sydney on Wednesday heralded the much anticipated return to sea for the Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) of the Royal Australian Navy.

During her journey to and from Jervis Bay on the New South Wales south coast, HMAS Hobart’s ship’s company will perform a series of exercises to test core mariner skills.

Commanding Officer, HMAS Hobart, Captain John Stavridis, said the ship’s company were eager to put their skills to the test.

“This is really the first key milestone in proving that we can operate the warship safely and effectively,” he said.

“My crew have worked very hard to get the ship commissioned and ready for sea.”

The week long Mariner Skills Evaluation (MSE) period will see the ship’s company put through their paces in a series of essential navigation and seamanship exercises off the east coast of Australia to prove Hobart’s safe and effective operation at sea. 

The MSE will feature boat drills, man-overboard, casualty and damage control exercises.

“The ship’s company will be tested in toxic hazards, fire-fighting, flood stop and repair, all the essential emergency responses to ensure a ship can operate safely at sea,” Captain Stavridis said. 

“It’s a challenging time for the ship’s company but the sense of accomplishment will make it very worthwhile.”

“We’re all very proud to wear the name Hobart on our shoulders and carry the motto ‘Grow with Strength’,” he said.

“This is an opportunity to live up to that legacy.”

On return to Fleet Base East, Hobart will continue with a complex series of system trials and unit readiness tests and evaluations, working towards full operational capacity late next year.

Sebagaimana dilansir Okezone pada akhir bulan ini TNI AL akan terima kapal perang Perusak Kawal Rudal, Kapal perang buatan PT PAL kedua jenis frigate Sigma 10514 bernomer lambung 332 yang diberi nama KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai mempunyai panjang 105 meter, lebar 14 meter dan memiliki kecepatan 28 knots tersebut rencananya akan diserahterimakan kepada TNI AL akhir bulan ini sesuai dengan kontrak dengan Kemhan RI.

Sebagai kapal perang modern yang berteknologi modular, maka kapal hasil kerjasama DSNS (Belanda) dan PAL (Surabaya) ini terdiri dari 7 bagian kapal (modul) yang dapat dikerjakan di tempat terpisah untuk kemudian disatukan kembali. Untuk kapal PKR-1 dari 7 modul kapal ini, sebanyak 5 unit dikerjakan di Surabaya dan 2 unit dikerjakan di Belanda, sedangkan untuk PKR-2 sebanyak 6 modul dikerjakan di Surabaya dan 1 modul dikerjakan di Belanda. Perakitan akhir modul-modul kapal ini dilakukan di galangan kapal PT PAL Surabaya.

Kapal fregat ini diluncurkan pada 29 September 2016 di PT PAL Surabaya. setelah itu dilakukan sea trial untuk melakukan uji fungsi dan integrasi sistem tenaga, sistem pemindai dan sistem senjata kapal ini agar dapat dioperasikan secara penuh oleh TNI AL.

Fregat KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai 332 akan menjadi fregat modern kelas Sigma-10514 yang kedua di TNI AL setelah pada bulan Januari 2017 yang lalu dilakukan serah terima fregat pertama KRI RE Martadinata 331.

PH Nears in Sealing Deal for Acquisition of 6 Super Tucanos

The Philippine government through the Department of National Defense (DND) is nearing to seal a deal with Brazilian manufacturer Embraer for the purchase of six EMB 314 Super Tucanos for Philippine Air Force (PAF), IHS Jane’s Defence Industry said in a report.

IHS Jane’s cited DND public affairs chief Arsenio Andolong saying the contract is expected to be finalized before this year ends.

These aircraft to be procured will act as Close Air Support (CAS) aircraft for PAF and will replace/complement PAF’s Rockwell OV-10 “Bronco” turboprop attack planes.

According to MaxDefense, the plan under the second horizon of AFP modernization is to acquire 18 more Super Tucano to “ultimately replace the OV-10A/C/M Broncos and SF-260TP with the PAF’s 15th Strike Wing.”

The DND confirmed in June that Embraer was declared as the lowest calculated bidder.

“Embraer was determined as the lowest calculated bidder for the Close Air Support Project, but they still have to undergo and pass the post-qualification inspection to be awarded the contract,” DND told Update Philippines.

Rockwell Collins Wins Contract for Digital Terminal Control System Simulators for ADF

$40 million to modernise military training

The battlefield training of our soldiers has been given a major boost with eight new Digital Terminal Control System simulators coming online next year.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today announced a $40 million contract with Rockwell Collins Australia to supply the simulators.

Minister Pyne said the contract includes operator and maintenance support and built on the acquisition of three interim systems in March this year, with 80 per cent of the contract value to be spent in Australia.

“This contract will create seven new jobs in Perth, Sydney, Newcastle and Puckapunyal, on top of the four jobs created under the earlier contract,” Minister Pyne said. 

“The DTCS itself is a state of the art computer-based capability which uses specialised software and hardware equipment to identify enemy targets with greater speed and accuracy.”

“These simulators will equip our soldiers with the skills necessary to use the DTCS to coordinate battlefield fire from artillery, mortars, helicopters, naval ships and fighter aircraft.”

“It also provides our personnel with the ability to work with multiple Australian and coalition land, air, and sea platforms to engage the enemy.” 

“The simulators provide an environment which can be difficult to replicate in live training, they provide a realistic, cost effective and safe alternative.”

“The purchase of these systems demonstrates our commitment to using Australian defence industry to improve and modernise our training equipment.”

The new simulators will be installed at bases in Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin, Perth, Sydney, Williamtown and Puckapunyal.

Delivery of the simulators is planned to commence in May 2018 with the final simulator expected in December 2018.

Indonesia Delays Decommissioning of Ahmad Yani-Class Frigates Amid South China Sea Obligations

The Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Laut) has decided to postpone the retirement of its Ahmad Yani-class frigates amid operational requirements that necessitate continued service of the platforms for about one more year, the service has confirmed with Jane’s .

Citing a TNI-AL source from the service’s Western Fleet (KOARMABAR), Jane’s reported in February 2016 that the country will start to retire the first of its six Ahmad Yani-class frigates in 2017. This decision was made at the 2016 iteration of an annual naval technical and logistics work plan meeting, and the intention then was to retire the class at a rate of one ship a year from 2017 to 2022.

However, given current progress of the Martadinata (SIGMA 10514)-class’ induction, and ongoing service obligations, this schedule has since been delayed by about one more year to ensure that there are no operational gaps in the fleet’s deployment capacity especially in the Natuna Sea where there is now an increasing number of unregulated fishing cases, said the TNI-AL.

Indonesia commissioned its first Martadinata-class frigate, KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (331), in April 2017. The second-of-class, which will be known as KRI IGusti Ngurah Rai with pennant number 332 once it is in service, was launched by state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL in September 2016. The country is expected to acquire follow-on ships in this class, but a formal procurement process for this has yet to begin.

The TNI-AL’s Ahmad Yani-class ships were formerly in service with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) as the Van Speijk class. After being in service for about 20 years, the ships were transferred to Indonesia between 1986 and 1989.

NZ Defence Force to Buy 82 New High-Tech Rifles for $4 Million

Two new types of weapons, including a long range sniper rifle that can hit targets at almost twice the distance current weapons can, are being bought by the New Zealand Defence Force [NZDF] at a cost of $4 million.

NZDF announced today it was entering an agreement to buy 40 of the Barrett M107A1 anti-materiel rifle and 42 Barrett Multi Role Adaptive Design (MRAD) sniper rifles.

The cost includes day optics, suppressors and ballistic computer auxiliary equipment.

The 0.50-calibre semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle gives soldiers the ability to identify and engage vehicle or installation targets with precision to 1500 metres.

The Barrett MRAD .338 Lapua Magnum has been proven effective to 1500m. It replaces the current AW 7.62mm calibre sniper rifle, effective to 800m, which has reached the end of its service life, Chief of Army Major General Peter Kelly said.

"This new weapon will increase significantly the range of NZDF snipers, and with the innovation of new tripods will increase their ability to shoot in various positions, from prone to standing."

Both rifles will be used by infantry units within the New Zealand Army and the New Zealand SAS, and will be introduced into service from mid-2018.

Kelly said the new weapons would provide soldiers with the latest technology and ensure they would be equipped for any battlefield environment they might encounter.

"The new weapons were chosen after rigorous testing and feedback from qualified operators."

The MRAD was selected after six weeks of testing of a number of potential rifles at Waiouru, with more than 10,000 rounds fired in a variety of evaluation activities.

RAPAT kerja Komisi I DPR dengan Menteri Pertahanan Ryamizard Ryacudu dan Pang­lima TNI Jenderal Gatot Nurmantyo yang sedianya membahas persoalan anggaran, kemarin, belum tuntas. Rapat pun dilanjutkan hari ini.

Demikian penjelasan Ketua Komisi I DPR Abdul Kharis Almasyhari kepada Media ­Indonesia, kemarin. Abdul yang bertindak ­sebagai pimpinan rapat enggan membeberkan detail alasan kenapa rapat yang berlangsung tertutup itu memerlukan waktu tambahan.

“Ya, karena belum rampung makanya besok dilanjutkan. Nah, besok itu rapat kita lanjutkan dengan Menteri Keuangan dan Bappenas yang kebetulan ada di Komisi XI maka kita manfaatkan sekalian,” ujarnya.

Pendapat berbeda dikatakan anggota Komisi I DPR Bobby Adhityo Rizaldi. Menurutnya, rapat perlu dilanjutkan karena adanya permintaan anggaran Rp1,85 triliun dari Kementerian Pertahanan untuk proyek pengembangan jet tempur KFX/IFX.

“Dalam rapat disampaikan bahwa masih banyak program prioritas TNI lain di lima unit organisasi lain, sehingga Kemenhan disarankan berkoordinasi dulu dengan ­Kemenkeu agar kiranya program tersebut bisa dimasukan di alokasi anggaran umum lain,” tutur Bobby.

Jet tempur canggih KFX/IFX adalah pesawat semi siluman generasi 4,5 yang dikembangkan Korea Selatan dan Indonesia. Bobby menilai proyek tersebut masih dalam fase engineering manufacture development (EMD) atau masih sangat lama untuk proses produksinya.

Tidak hanya itu, Komisi I juga memperta­nyakan beberapa hal yang dianggap masih memerlukan koordinasi terkait alih teknologi dengan negara-negara Eropa selain Amerika Serikat, khususnya untuk 4 teknologi utama di dalam pesawat tempur KFX/IFX. Misalnya, radar electronically scanned array (AESA), infrared search and track (IRST), electronic optics targeting pod (EOTGP), dan pengacak frekuensi radio.

“Hal-hal seperti ini perlu dipertimbangkan agar jangan seperti proyek satelit yang bernilai triliunan dan sudah disetujui bersama DPR, ternyata tidak bisa dijalankan, malah Kemenhan dituntut ke arbitrase internasional,” kata Bobby.

Panglima TNI Jenderal Gatot Nurmantyo dan Menhan Ryamizard Ryacudu pun ­hanya menjawab diplomatis ketika disinggung awak media perihal alasan rapat dilanjutkan besok. “Cut dulu, besok dilanjutkan. Kita akan rapat dengan Menteri Keuangan, jadi belum disimpulkan,” pungkas Gatot.

HMAS Newcastle has conducted the RAN’s first simultaneous operations of manned and unmanned aircraft during its current deployment to the Middle East on Operation Manitou.

In September, Newcastle’s MH-60R helicopter and ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) were employed on concurrent surface search sorties in the Gulf of Oman in support of Task Force 50, US Navy 5th Fleet.

Commanding Officer, HMAS Newcastle, Commander Mark Sirois said the integration of manned and unmanned aerial operations offered significant flexibility to Commanders at sea.

“The cooperative employment of both aviation platforms allows Newcastle to effectively conduct wide-area search and persistent surveillance by employing the appropriate asset,” he said.

“The advent of unmanned aerial systems within the RAN, specifically in Newcastle for OP Manitou, has provided an excellent asset for both the CMF mission and for future use within the RAN.”

Newcastle has four ScanEagle air vehicles embarked as part of an Operational Evaluation (OPEVAL) to support the introduction of Maritime Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems and their teamed employment with manned aircraft, under Project SEA 129.

HMAS Newcastle’s Flight Commander, Lieutenant Commander Ian Holmes said the deployment of manned and unmanned systems had seen Newcastle operate at flying stations for extended periods, which was based on comprehensive planning and coordination.

“The successful, concurrent MH-60R - ScanEagle mission was a result of detailed planning and preparation to ensure that the conduct of the flying operations could be supported effectively by Newcastle,” Lieutenant Commander Holmes said.

“This required a comprehensive understanding of the capabilities of both aviation platforms.”

During the manned-unmanned teaming sortie, ScanEagle was equipped with a ‘Video Detection and Ranging’ (ViDAR) camera that automatically detects surface contacts, increasing operator situational awareness and search capacity.

Due to the longer endurance of ScanEagle, and a need to ensure safe recovery of the manned aircraft to the single flight deck, the MH-60R was operated after ScanEagle launch and prior to its recovery.

Prior to the simultaneous manned-unmanned operation, the ScanEagle had been used as a platform to conduct surface search and persistent, covert surveillance in support of CTF 150 Maritime Security Operations, including chokepoint transits in the Bab al Mandeb.

As of late September, ScanEagle had flown 140 hours over 29 OPEVAL sorties.

The UAS is fully integrated into Newcastle’s combat system, enabling live streaming of ScanEagle imagery to the operations room for analysis and exploitation.

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Kepala Staf TNI AL, Laksamana TNI Ade Supandi, meresmikan Markas Komando Pasukan Marinir 2 Korps Marinir TNI AL, di Kesatrian Marinir Baroto Sardadi, Marunda, Jakarta Utara, Rabu.

Nama yang disematkan pada kesatrian baru Korps Marinir TNI AL itu mengambil nama Mayor Jenderal TNI (Purnawirawan) Baroto Sardadi, yang pernah menjadi komandan komponen pendarat TNI AL itu.

Marunda ternama dengan kekhasan adat-istiadat Betawi-nya, sehingga kedatangan Supandi dan rombongan disambut kesenian Betawi, selain demonstrasi terjun payung dari Batalion Intai Amfibi 2 Korps Marinir TNI AL.

Peresmian Markas Komando Pasukan Marinir 2 itu ditandai penyerahan keris dari Supandi kepada Komandan Pasukan Marinir 2, Brigadir Jenderal TNI (Marinir) Nur Alamsyah. Keris menduduki posisi penting pada Korps Marinir TNI AL karena senjata tradisional Indonesia itu dijadikan komponen lambang korps pasukan pendarat TNI AL itu.

Selain itu, dilakukan penandatanganan prasasti dan pemotongan pita secara simbolis dan penyerahan dua unit kendaraan dan pengukuhan Supandi sebagai ketua pembina Jayamahe Jeep Club, sebagaimana dinyatakan siaran pers Dinas Penerangan TNI AL, diterima di Jakarta, Rabu.

Pada kesempatan ini dia turun langsung mengendarai kendaraan off-road, untuk mengetahui lingkungan sekitaran Markas Komando Pasukan Marinir 2 didampingi Alamsyah.

Supandi, mengatakan keberadaan Pasukan Marinir-2 sebagai komando pelaksana Korps Marinir TNI AL di wilayah barat, khususnya Jakarta, dituntut senantiasa meningkatkan kinerja organisasi guna memenuhi tugas pokok yang diharapkan.

Oleh karena itu, kata dia, pembangunan gedung dan fasilitas sarana dan prasarananya dapat mendorong ide-ide pemikiran yang kreatif dan inovatif guna pencapaian tugas pokok Korps Marinir TNI AL dalam rangka mewujudkan visi dan misi TNI AL ke depan.

Dia berpesan agar semua komponen Korps Marinir TNI AL mampu tetap meningkatkan semangat kejuangan dan keprajuritan dan menjaga semua fasilitas yang telah diberikan negara.

Satu flight pesawat tempur F-16 Fihgting Falcon dari Skadron Udara 3 Lanud Iswahjudi berangkat menuju Darwin, Australia

Satu flight pesawat tempur F-16 Fihgting Falcon dari Skadron Udara 3 Lanud Iswahjudi, beberapa waktu lalu berangkat menuju Darwin, Australia, guna melaksanakan latihan bersama dengan Angkatan Udara Australia.

Latihan Bersama (Latma) dengan sandi "AUSINDO" tersebut merupakan latihan perang antara TNI Angkatan Udara Indonesia dengan Angkatan Udara Australia yaitu Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

Keberangakatan Satu flight pesawat F-16 Fighting Falcon dipimpin langsung oleh Komandan Skadron Udara 3 Letkol Pnb Yoga Ambara, dilepas oleh Kepala Dinas Operasi Lanud Iswahjudi Kolonel Pnb Wastum, beserta segenap pejabat Lanud Iswahjudi.

Latma "AUSINDO 2017" akan digelar dari tanggal 17 Oktober hingga tanggal 28 Oktober 2017, dalam latihan tersebut Lanud Iswahjudi mengerahkan 7 pesawat tampur F-16 Fihgting Falcon, 77 teknisi dan didukung dengan dua pesawat C-130 Hercules.

Cubic’s GATR Technologies Awarded Contract to Support New Zealand Defence Force

SAN DIEGO –  Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) today announced that GATR Technologies, a subsidiary which operates within the Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS) business division, was awarded an order worth more than $5 million to provide satellite communication (SATCOM) solutions for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). Cubic will supply 2.4-meter inflatable satellite antennas with supporting hardware, spares and New Equipment Training (NET) for the NZDF Network Enabled Army (NEA) program.  In addition to a multi-year support contract, Cubic will deliver and integrate an iDirect-based, time division multiple access (TDMA) network within the NZDF's existing and future hub infrastructure. 

The NEA program improves the NZDF’s ability to support deployed land forces by enhancing its battlefield’s command and control system, communications and intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) sensor systems. By closely examining how the NZDF communicates across coalition operations, the NEA program works to advance communication capabilities for future deployments in the South Pacific and high-intensity environments. Cubic was awarded the foreign military sale (FMS) contract for the entirety of the NEA program due to its ability to provide the largest aperture and throughput within the smallest packaged weight and form factor in the industry.



 “GATR’s SATCOM is expected to provide the New Zealand Army with a communications solution that meets its tactical requirements and enhance the command and control capabilities of its forces when deployed on operations. Work is expected to commence soon to integrate GATR into the New Zealand Defence Information Environment,” said Major General Peter Kelly, New Zealand Chief of Army. “Along with our partners in the New Zealand Ministry of Defence, we are looking forward to working with Cubic Mission Solutions and GATR Technologies to bring our GATR SATCOM systems into service.”

Cobham Awarded Contract for KF-X Antenna Suite

Cobham Antenna Systems has been awarded a contract from Korean Aerospace Industries Ltd (KAI) to design and supply the fully conformal antenna suite for the future KF-X, next-generation indigenous multi-role and fighter aircraft.

Cobham Antenna Systems has been a leader in conformal antenna technology since the company’s inception over 50 years ago. This wealth of experience has allowed the company to develop a full suite of conformal antennas for the KF-X platform.

Unlike traditional antennas which stand proud of the skin of a platform, conformal antennas are built into the skin and allow for reduced drag, improved aerodynamics and reduced life-cycle repair costs.

The KF-X conformal antenna suite will offer a full range of Communication, Navigation and Identification (CNI) functionality.

“Cobham is an established market leader in conformal antenna technology and provides platforms with bespoke Communications, Navigations and Identification antennas which deliver high performance and reliability.” David Bulley, Vice President, General Manager of Cobham Antenna Systems said. “The KFX programme is strategically important and this award allows Cobham Antenna Systems to continue to lead the market in the design and supply of airborne antennas and systems for next generation fighter platforms.”

Russia Expands Myanmar Mi-24P Repair Programme

Russian Helicopters is to repair a small number of Mil Mi-24P/35P (‘Hind’) combat helicopters in Myanmar, as part of an initiative to support platforms in the country of operation instead of transporting the aircraft to Russia.

The group said that it would send a team of technicians to Myanmar from this month to repair three of four Mil Mi-24 helicopters operated by the Myanmar Air Force (MAF). Russian Helicopters said that repair work on the first Mi-24 was recently completed at the company’s Aircraft Repair Plant 419 in St Petersburg.

As part of the support programme, Russian Helicopters added that it had delivered the accessories and spare parts to Myanmar required to locally repair the MAF’s Mi-24s, reducing the timeframe required to overhaul the aircraft.

Highlighting the significance of the MAF programme, Russian Helicopters’ deputy CEO for aftersales service, Igor Chechikov, said, “This contract is extremely important for us, as we are implementing a procedure of complete overhaul of military aircraft with on-site visits [from] group specialists to the client’s territory for the first time.”

Chechikov added, “Successful completion of works will lay the foundation for [the] further development of co-operation and [the] signing [of] new agreements with our partners in Myanmar.”

The contract to repair the aircraft was announced in June 2016, and followed a framework agreement in 2015 under which Russian Helicopters committed to expand collaboration with the Myanmar armed forces. Russian Helicopters regards these deals as potential precursors to additional contracts through which the firm will support localised maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) programmes.

“Baru-baru ini Pussenarmed telah memesan 18 unit meriam M109A4 155 mm. Meriam Arbeba GS M109A4BE 155 mm Howitzer merupakan upgrade dari meriam M109A2 buatan Amerika Serikat yang dibeli pada tahun 1984-1985. Peremajaan dilakukan oleh Belgia pada tahun 2007-2008. Secara teknis kemampuannya telah diperbaharui dengan tekhnologi terbaru dan mempunyai daya tempur sangat dahsyat dan mobile yang tinggi,” papar Danpussenarmed

“Senjata andalan korps baret coklat yang terakhir ini sekarang berada di Ditpalad untuk dilakukan pemeliharaan secara efektif dan efisien, sehingga seluruh materiil peralatan tersebut selalu dalam kondisi siap pakai guna menunjang kesiapan satuan jajaran TNI Angkatan Darat dalam melaksanakan tugas pokoknya,” imbuhnya.

Materi yang dilaksanakan dalam uji fungsi Meriam GS M109A4-BE 155 mm tersebut adalah Yonarmed roket melaksanakan bantuan tembakan dalam operasi serangan dan Yonarmed roket melaksanakan operasi serangan Artileri (Artileri Strike).

Artilleri Strike yang merupakan suatu bentuk operasi tersendiri, lanjut Dwi Jati Utomo, sangat menentukan dalam pertempuran. Dimana terjadi pengerahan kekuatan Armed roket untuk menghancurkan musuh/instalasi (sasaran strategis) dari jarak yang sangat jauh dengan tembakan penghancuran, ketika pasukan sendiri masih berada dalam jarak yang aman atau belum terlibat dalam operasi secara keseluruhan yang dapat menimbulkan keuntungan bagi pasukan sendiri dan operasi selanjutnya.

“Mengingat persenjataan Armed saat ini semakin canggih dan modern, maka perlu diadakan revisi pembinaan fungsi Armed ke depan,” tandas Dwi Jati Utomo.

KAI Pushes for Additional T-50 Sale to Thailand

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is hopeful of selling a third batch of T-50 Golden Eagle lead-in fighter trainers to Thailand, to add to the two batches already signed for.

Jane’s was told on 17 October that KAI hopes to begin talks shortly for the four fighters that are outstanding from Thailand’s original requirement of 16. Eight were initially procured and delivered in the first batch, with a contract for a further four following earlier this year ahead of delivery in 2018.

“We have spoken to the assistant chief of the Thai air force at the show already, and hope to start a formal dialogue for the third batch soon,” Jake Jaehong Kim, senior manager Business Development Team, Middle East and North Africa, said at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (ADEX).
